High Conductivity Tellurium Copper OFT - Premium Quality Material

The outstanding properties of high-conductivity tellurium-copper stem from its unique composition—the addition of tellurium to pure copper. This combination retains copper’s excellent electrical conductivity while imparting machinability that pure copper cannot match. It can carry high currents without significant heat generation and allows for smooth, efficient machining.

    Product Description

Oxygen-free high-conductivity tellurium copper (OFT) has a conductivity consistently ranging from 95% to 97% IACS, which is essentially on par with pure copper. However, what truly sets it apart is the addition of tellurium—during machining, it produces fine, short chips rather than the long, tangled chips typical of ordinary copper, thereby significantly extending tool life. For anyone who has spent considerable time cleaning copper chips from a lathe, this in itself is a revolutionary improvement.

The oxygen content of this material is controlled to within 10 ppm, meeting the TU0-grade oxygen-free copper standard. This is more important than one might imagine: when ordinary copper is welded or brazed, residual oxygen inside reacts with hydrogen, causing internal cracking (known as “hydrogen embrittlement”). Oxygen-free tellurium copper, however, is completely free of this risk; it retains its structural integrity even after high-temperature processing, significantly reducing scrap rates and enhancing the reliability of finished products.

In terms of mechanical properties, this alloy’s tensile strength and fatigue strength are sufficient to withstand most demanding operating conditions. It also offers excellent corrosion resistance, enabling stable operation in a variety of corrosive environments. Furthermore, it maintains superior electrical conductivity at low temperatures, making it suitable for use in cryogenic systems or as supporting components for superconducting materials.

    Key Features

    High electrical conductivity

95%–97% IACS, approaching that of pure copper, making it suitable for high-current transmission.

    Oxygen-free purity

Oxygen content ≤ 10 ppm, meeting the TU0 grade, completely eliminating the risk of hydrogen embrittlement during welding and annealing.

    Excellent Machinability

Chips are short and fragmented, resulting in minimal tool wear and machining efficiency far exceeding that of ordinary red copper.

    Good Mechanical Properties

Possesses high tensile strength and fatigue resistance, ensuring reliable long-term performance.

    Corrosion Resistance

Performs stably in various corrosive media, meeting the stringent requirements of industrial environments.

    Stable Low-Temperature Performance

Maintains good electrical conductivity even under low-temperature conditions.

Compared to traditional tellurium copper, the oxygen-free grade sets this material apart in terms of purity and consistency. Lower oxygen content means fewer impurities, more stable batch performance, and greater reliability during processing at higher temperatures. For industries such as aerospace, automotive electronics, and medical devices, this level of purity is not an optional extra but a fundamental requirement.

As machining precision continues to improve and power density continues to rise, market demand for high-conductivity tellurium copper is steadily growing. It solves practical problems on the production line and withstands the long-term rigors of field use—making it a copper alloy that truly balances performance and processability.
